Chick Trip 2002
New Orleans, Louisiana to San Antonio, Texas
We left New Orleans and my wonderful penpal's family at 9:05 AM. We headed for San Antonio, Texas.
Lela freaked out on how big the Mississippi River is when we went over it!
Of course, our main goal was to get around Houston which has some wicked traffic. Those are some very brave folks, the drivers of Houston. It only took use one hour and five minutes to get around this big city by way of the Sam Houston Parkway, a toll road that is worth every penny!
We arrived in San Antonio at 7:30 in the evening. It was a long day and a long drive, but it got us so far and we were ready to wander the town. We had a wonderful room at the Days Inn at 902 Houston Street, which is about one and a half blocks from The Alamo, the Riverwalk and the Rivercenter Mall. The 3 minute walk meant we were off of the main Riverwalk stuff, but also saved us 50 + dollars. The rooms were clean and quiet, and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
We walked over to the Riverwalk area and listened to a live Mariachi band and watched the dancers whirling about in their bright costumes. Strolling along, Lela vowed vengeance on my dad for not ever taking her to the Riverwalk! We ended up at Fat Tuesday's and I introduced Lela to Rum Runners. The Rum Runner convinved Lela to call dad and tell him she was going to kill him! She absolutely LOVED the Riverwalk. We shared a sampler platter for dinner at a restaurant called the Republic of Texas which was right on the Riverwalk.
